10000
Drawing serie| Pencil on paper,various sizes | 2018

The drawing series reflects on the dynamics of inflation and currency crisis in Iran after the renewed US sanctions. The handwritten calculation reveals the amount of paper that 10000 rials could buy at that point. This size was cut from the paper and used for the hand drawing of a 10000 rials banknote.
Like a banknote, the picture depicts fixed moments in an interconnected economy of flows, where it simultaneously becomes a fetishized end in itself and a calibrated signifier of value that relies elsewhere, both autonomous and bound to its referential function. (text by Elisa R. Linn)
