Site-specific Installation | Pencil on Paper, Drywall, Concrete | 2018

A concrete wall with a square opening, alongside a paper sheet with a square cutout, together form a short story. The paper displays a drawing of stacked passepartout, hanging on the wall using a nail through the cutout. Through the opening in the wall, viewers can read a text. The initial darkness on the other side takes a moment for the eye to adjust, revealing the text:

The painter did not even dare to look anymore
All he could do was to build frames.
Through each frame he would take a look
and move on to build the next one

The installation invites the viewers to explore to the rear room, where they can continue the narrative from the dark side:

The frames are hanging on the wall
on top of each other
Over and over he talks to himself
he sees what he chose to see

This perspective shift reveals that what appeared to be a concrete wall is, in fact, a drywall that contains a concrete frame with a small aperture.
